NOMINEE: Jim Jones
1. What service has your nominee performed for your local, state and national association?
LOCAL SERVICE: Jim Jones has been an associate member of the Huntsville/Madison County Builders Association since 1985 and has been an active member since he first joined the Association. He has served on many committees including the annual picnic committee; golf tournament committee; Building, Home & Remodeling Show Committee; ABPAC fund raising committee; personnel committee; Long Range Planning committee; and the local state convention committee. Jim has served on the local Board of Directors since 1986. He has also served as Membership Committee Co-Chairman & Chairman; Secretary; Associate Council Secretary; Golf Tournament Chairman; Retention Chairman; 2nd Vice President; Programs Chairman; Associate Council 1st Vice Chairman & Associate Council Chairman; and local State Convention Committee Chairperson.
He was very instrumental in the start-up of the Ambassador’s Club in 1993 and served as an Ambassador for many years being sure that new members were introduced and made to feel “at home” during all association activities.
Jim is a strong supporter of ABPAC, contributing on a regular basis and also helping to plan and sell tickets to all fund-raising events for ABPAC. He also supports the organization through donations toward construction of the annual Showcase Home, charitable projects undertaken by the Association and advertising in local publications.
Jim was the H/MCBA’s Womens Council candidate for the first Miss HBA Summer Beauty Contest (Miss Jimena Jones) and came in second place at the 1993 HBAA Summer Board Meeting.
The H/MCBA created the Huntsville/Madison County Builders Foundation in 1996, a non-profit charitable foundation. Jim was a founding director and has served on the Board since 1996. He is serving as Chairperson in 2000. Additionally, he has held the position of Vice President of the Foundation since 1996 and as Chairperson of the Foundation Scholarship Committee in 1998 & 1999.
In 1998, the Huntsville/Madison County Builders Association constructed a new association office building (7,000 square feet). Jim was instrumental in getting all of the Sheetrock donated for the new building.
Jim served a two year term on the H/MCBA Housing Hall of Fame Board of Governors in 1990 and 1991.
STATE SERVICE: Jim Jones served as a State Director for three years (1992 thru 1994), served as Co-Chairman of the HBAA Associate Council in 1992 and Chairperson in 1993. He served as Alternate Associate Member National Director on the state level in 1994 and Associate Member National Director in 1995. He has served on the Past Associate Council Presidents Committee since 1994 and as its President in 1997. He also served on the State Executive Committee in 1993, 1994 and 1995. Jim serves on the Alabama Home Builders Foundation Board of Directors and on the Scholarship Committee of the Foundation. He was instrumental in securing a $25,000 sponsorship from USG Corporation for the Foundation Golf Tournament in 1999 and again in the year 2000. Jim served as Chairperson of the Golf Tournament in 1997. Jim served as Associate Area Vice President in 1999. He actively supports HBAA ABPAC auctions both as a contributor and buyer. He is a member of the Past Associates Committee Presidents.
NATIONAL SERVICE: Jim has attended many national conventions attending area 7 caucus meetings and associate council meetings. Jim has served as an Alternate National Associate Director and Associate National Director.
2. What service has your nominee performed in housing related activities at the local, state and national level; describe the positions and give the number of years in each position?
In addition to his service with the H/MCBA, HBAA and NAHB, Jim is a member of Associated Builders & Contractors of North Alabama. He served a three year term on the Board of Directors (1997 thru 1999). Additionally, he serves as co-chairman of the Programs Committee, serves on the Golf Tournament committee, and the Nominating Committee.
3. What service has your nominee performed for his/her community (service on board of charitable organizations, hospitals, etc.)?
Jim is very active in the community. He was a member of the Sertoma Club from 1976 through 1981 where he held the positions of Secretary and Vice‑President. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Sertoma Club from 1978 to 1981. He has been a member of the Exchange Club of Huntsville from 1981 to present serving on the Board of Directors from 1982 until 1987. Jim also held the positions of Vice‑President, President and Treasurer. He also has chaired numerous committees while a member of the Exchange Club of Huntsville. He actively participates in the Exchange Club’s fireworks celebration which is held every year in the City of Huntsville at Milton Frank Stadium. He was awarded Exchangite of the Year in 1994.
Additionally, Jim is a member of the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce, the Quarter Back Club of Huntsville, and works as a bell ringer" for the Salvation Army. He also serves as Chairman of the Lee High School Marketing Education Advisory Committee and serves on the Lee High School Trade & Industrial Education Advisory Committee.
4. What awards has the nominee received for meritorious service in the various positions he/she has held in housing related activities?
Jim was selected as H/MCBA Associate of the Year in 1987

5. What is the impact and success of projects and/or programs the nominee has been responsible for? While serving on committees and as Chairperson of various committees, Jim has met and/or exceeded all goals established. These include Membership, ABPAC, golf tournaments, foundation fund raising events, etc.
6. Describe the significant contributions your nominee has made to the housing industry.

7. SUMMARY STATEMENT: The Board of Directors of the H/MCBA believe
Jim Jones should be named to the ALABAMA BUILDING INDUSTRY HALL OF FAME for the following reasons:
Jim Jones’ past and continual service to the local, state and national associations along with his involvement and accomplishments in the community are the basis for his peers to nominate him for induction into the Alabama Building Industry Hall of Fame. He has sacrificed many hours of personal time and expense toward the betterment of not only the local, state and national associations, but the housing industry in general. Jim is well respected throughout the community and the building industry. He is known as a “mover and shaker” and his opinions and advice are widely solicited. He has advanced the involvement of associate members in the organization and throughout the state by setting an example of professionalism, high ethical standards, friendship, honesty and integrity. He is truly an asset to our association, to the Home Builders Association of Alabama and to the National Association of Home Builders. His contributions have greatly impacted the housing industry and community in a positive manner. It is our belief a more deserving nominee for induction into the Alabama Building Industry Hall of Fame would be hard to find.
